In a war-ravaged city, a man navigates the chaos and devastation around him. Amid the roar of bombs and crumbling buildings, he clings to hope, performing ordinary tasks with trembling resolve. Yet, tragedy strikes when he discovers his family has perished. Grief overwhelms him, and as he attempts to grapple with his loss, he is unexpectedly killed, illustrating the indiscriminate and relentless cruelty of war.
When I opened my eyes,
A bomb’s roar filled the skies,
And through the window, I could see
A world shattered a memory.
Buildings were broken, rubble fell,
The sound of war, a harsh knell ,
Bombs descending from above,
A city drowning in broken love.
I brushed my teeth with trembling hands.
As stones rained down on the land.
I washed my face, prepared to go,
Unaware of the coming blow.
I walked out, my heart in fear.
The echoes of destruction near,
Then suddenly, the world did crack.
One bomb fell, and it struck my back.
Pain and terror filled the air.
But still, I ran with frantic prayer.
I reached my office, heart a storm,
Thankfully, we are still unharmed.
I thanked my God, my soul renewed.
And headed home, my heart subdued.
I bought some chocolates, sweet and bright,
To share with my children tonight.
But when I reached my humble door,
I found what I'd prayed not for—
No smiles, no laughter, only still,
My wife and son, their hearts cold, are still.
Grief consumed me, wild and deep,
As death’s dark shadow stole my sleep.
And amid sorrow’s breath,
A police officer shot me dead.
In that last moment, I knew the cost—
A life, a love, a world now lost
